Just tell your legislature how much cash they can make from taxing the industry. That should do the trick.

Nor should it have to be "protected". This isn't supposed to be a society where everything not expressly permitted by the rulers is forbidden.

Every time someone in Mississippi tells me that home brewing is illegal, I ask "What law or statute outlaws home brewing?" and the answer is always some variant of "Well, there's something in the state constitution that says wine making is okay".

I grew up in Mississippi, and I remember the liquor stores that existed openly in some places in the state--despite the law. What the people did was to elect a "dry" sheriff or a "wwt" sheriff. A dry sheriff actually enforced the law; a wet sheriff did not. To compund it, the state collected what was called a "black market tax" on the illegal booze.

Florida. Pensacola is the closest place I've found for a wide, less restricted availability. I'm glad I going back to Montana soon!
I just paid $10 (without tax) at Winn-Dixie for a six-pack of Anchor Steam that would cost me about $6.50 (total--no sales tax in Montana). Hopefully another hurricane will do a better job than Katrina did....

Picked up a couple of growlers at Rouse's in Gulfport. Nice, smooth, nice nutty background, decent lacing on the glass. Not as dark or as heavy as Guinness or other porters. Not bad at all.
